White Deer Grotto Academy

The Academy for the White Stag Grotto (Ch Bailu dong Shuyuan白鹿洞 书院or Bailu Shuyuan白鹿书院; Wade- Giles: Pai -lu- tion shu -yuan; engl White Deer Cave Academy / White Deer Grotto Academy. ) or Bailudong Academy in the mountains Lu Shan is located in the district Xingzi the prefecture-level city of Jiujiang in the southern Chinese province of Jiangxi.

It was the most famous of the Four Great Academies of ancient China and they enjoyed high reputation in the Chinese history of education. Studied at the location of the academy today well preserved and lived Li Bo ( 773-831 ), the famous scholar of the Tang Dynasty ( 618-907 ). The Academy was developed by Zhu Xi (1130-1200), the scholar of Neo-Confucianism during the Song Dynasty (960-1279) revived and expanded. She enjoyed in ancient Chinese culture for several centuries the fame of an important educational center.

She is since 1988 on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 3-74).
