White Town

Whitestown was a synthpop project that only from the Indian- British Jyoti Mishra ( born July 30, 1966 in Rourkela, India) was.

In 1997, he reached with the EP Abort, Retry, Fail named after an MS- DOS error message? surprisingly topped the UK singles chart. Crucial to the success of the EP was the first of the four tracks, Your Woman. It was a pretty minimalistic synth number that began with a fanfare-like sample from one hit of the 1930s, My Woman by Al Bowlly. Many Britons had this tune yet known, because it was recorded in Denis Potter's TV series Pennies From Heaven 1977. In the slightly whimpering presented Lyrics Mishra sang in gently ironic way his relationship problems.

This success Mishra was able to build and never so Whitestown is now considered a classic one- hit wonder. Nevertheless, he published in the following years, several singles, and in 2000 the album Peek & Poke. Most recently, he contributed in 2005 for a charity compilation in favor of the UNHCR in a song.
