Whoopi is the title of an American sitcom starring Whoopi Goldberg in the lead role, which was first broadcast on 9 September 2003 on NBC. In Germany, the series has been sent since January 9, 2006 on RTL 2 and repeated several times.

• The African American Mavis Rae ( Whoopi Goldberg ) was a member of the female vocal trio The Ebony Black Birds in the eighties - a group that quickly disappeared from the scene after her hit single Do not Hide Love. The series was discontinued in the U.S. after only 22 episodes in April 2004. According to the television lexicon reason is the decline in rates during the first season. Other reasons may have been, etc. the obvious anti-Bush attitude and issues such as xenophobia, SARS, racial discrimination, same-sex marriages critical of society represented.

Awards

The series received the 2004 Emmy nomination in the category Best Art Direction. Whoopi Goldberg was nominated in the same year for the Image Award.
