Wicko, Pomeranian Voivodeship

Wicko [' vit͡skɔ ] ( German Vietzig, Kashubian Wicko ) is a village with a seat of a rural municipality ( gmina wiejska ) in the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship and is part of the circle Lębork ( Lauenburg in Pomerania ).

Geographical Location and Transport

Wicko located in Pomerania, about 18 kilometers north of Lębork ( Lauenburg in Pommern ) and 10 kilometers south of the Baltic Sea town of Leba ( Leba ) at the intersection of province road 213 Celbowo ( Celbau ) - Krokowa ( Krockow ) - Slupsk ( Stolp ) and the province road 214 Leba - Lębork - Kościerzyna ( Berent ) - Warlubie ( Warlubien, 1942-1945 Warlieb ). Village Wicko ( Vietzig )

History

Vietzig in earlier times had been a noble residence. In the 18th century the village was owned by the family of Wussow. Around 1780 there were in Vietzig: a Vorwerk, seven farmers, six Kossäten, an inn, a smithy and a schoolmaster. On the field mark of the village, the Vorwerk Gorke was called with a Kuhpächterei and two crofts, small Vietzig or Wussowke. Overall, there were 30 in the village hearths (households). Owner of the village in 1780 was George Lawrence of Wussow.

By 1945 Vietzig belonged to the district of Lauenburg i Pom. in the district of the Prussian province of Pomerania Pomerania. The place made ​​with the communities Goose ( today Polish: Gęś ) and Scharschow ( Skarszewo ) the District Vietzig. The competent registry office was in Charbrow (1939-1945 Degendorf, today Polish Charbrowo ), District Court area Lauenburg in Pomerania.

Towards the end of the Second World War, the region was occupied in the spring of 1945 by the Red Army and then - as the whole of Pomerania - placed under Polish administration. The German village Vietzig was renamed by the Poles in Wicko. It soon began the immigration of Polish settlers who pushed the native Germans from their homes and farms. The native German population was expelled to about 1947, pursuant to the so-called Bierut Decrees from the site.

Wicko ( Vietzig ) belongs since 1945 to the powiat Leborski in the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship ( to 1998 Voivodeship Stolp ). It is part and official residence of Gmina Wicko. In the resort 690 people live today.

Church

Protestant

Prior to 1945, was the largest part of the population Vietzigs Protestant denomination. The rural community Wicko covers an area of ​​216.08 km ², which corresponds to 30.56 % of the total area of ​​the powiat Leborski. The Gmina counts 5,462 inhabitants, of whom about 10 % live in the village Wicko.
