Wiefelstede

Wiefelstede ( Low German Wiefelstä ) is a municipality in the district Ammer country in the northwest of Lower Saxony. It lies between the cities of Oldenburg and Varel and the municipalities of Bad Zwischenahn Rastede.

History

Incorporations

On 1 July 1972, a part of the dissolved municipality Varel country was incorporated with at that time more than 800 inhabitants. On January 1, 1980, a part of the territory of the town of Varel was added at that time with about 80 inhabitants.

The last elections to the council of the municipality Wiefelstede took place on September 11, 2011. The CDU provides the strongest faction.

Mayor

Since October 1, 2013, the non-party Jörg Pieper mayor of the municipality. In the direct election on September 22, 2013 he was awarded with a voter turnout of 72.88 percent unopposed 7,381 votes. This corresponded to a vote share of 81.46 per cent. Pieper also followed the nonparty Helmut Völkers, the community as a Director and from 2001 to 2013 as the full-time mayor directed the destinies of the community from 1980 to 2001.

Coat of arms

The crest shows the colors red and gold than that of Oldenburg coat of arms in its oldest form. It is provided with a symbolic Wolfsangel to find on the gable of an old and now converted farm house in Wiefelstede. According to the written sources was one of the founding fathers Wiefels and to have hunted wolves.

Structures

The Protestant St. John's Church is the oldest church in the Ammer country and was ordained in 1057. So they celebrated their 950th anniversary in 2007.

In the district Wemkendorf has a built landscape of five windows of the district Ammer country, namely, 'the landscape window hedgerows ".

Parks

In Gristeder Forest Park is a sight of the nursery Bruns, in which a variety of rhododendrons and azaleas can be visited.

Solar Ammerland

In 2011, the former air base was converted to a solar park. A total of approximately 196,000 thin-film modules from Q -Cells have been installed with a capacity of 20.8 MWp June to September on 57 hectares. This corresponds to the annual consumption of 6,000 four - person households. An extension of 12.4 MWp is planned.
