Wierzchlądz ( German Verchland, formerly Ferch Country ) is a village in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland.

Geographical location

The village is located in Eastern Pomerania, about 25 km east of Szczecin and 10 km west of Stargard ( Stargard in Pomerania ), on the east bank of the Madüsees. The river flows south of the village Hufnitz in the Madüsee.

Neighboring towns are in the north, around 1 km from the lake, Kunowo ( Kunow on the road ), in the south lakefront Koszewko (small Küssow ) and to the east Skalin ( Schellin ).

History

The place was first mentioned in 1320 under the name Varchland documented. It is possible that the place name explained by the fact that the German foundation between the surrounding older, original Slavic villages " cooped up " was. Verchland was an old feud of the noble family of Küssow, which was first mentioned in 1336 with a Nicolaus Küssow.
