Wierzchowo, Drawsko County

Wierzchowo ( Virchow German ) is a village seat of the rural community in the powiat Drawski ( Pomerania ) in Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Geographical location

Wierzchowo located in the southeastern region of the powiat Drawski in the city triangle Złocieniec ( Falkenburg, 12 km), Czaplinek (Temple Castle, 15 km) and Mirosławiec ( Mirosławiec, 13 km ) on a side street that Złocieniec with Sośnica ( Herzberg ) connects. History

Virchow was founded in 1300 with German law. 1333 wrote Pastor Otto tho Virche the founding charter for the city of Falkenburg (now Polish: Złocienic ). In 1490 the family of Borcke in their Lehnsbrief got some shares in Virchow.

Before 1945, Virchow belonged to the district of Pomerania in the district of the Prussian province of Pomerania Pomerania. 1939 1391 inhabitants lived here.

Since 1945 Wierzchowo is incorporated in the powiat Drawski in Polish West Pomeranian Voivodeship ( to 1998 Koszalin Voivodeship ). Here people are now living in 1541. The place is part and seat of the Gmina Wierzchowo.

Church

Parish Church

The large brick church in Wierzchowo was built in 1890 after the previous building - a half-timbered church - had been demolished. From the old church of 1612 by a monk carved altar had been taken, in the three fields of the Lord's Supper, the Crucifixion and the Descent from the Cross were designed as a relief.

Since 1946, the church bears the name Kościół pw Sw. Wojciecha.

From northeast to southwest, the province road 177 crosses the municipality.
