Wierzchucino

Wierzchucino ( German Wierschutzin, Kashubian Wierzchùcëno ) is a village in the powiat Pucki the Polish Pomeranian Voivodeship.

Geographical location

Wierzchucino located in the extreme eastern tip of East Pomerania, about 29 kilometers east of the town of Leba ( Leba ), 32 kilometers northeast of the city Lebork ( Lauenburg i Pom. ), Two kilometers west of the Żarnowieckie Lake and five miles south of the Baltic Sea.

History

The surviving forms of the name are Virchocino ( 1257 ), Wirchenzin ( 1606 ), Wierszchuzin (1784 ) and Wierzchucin ( 1866-1910 ). In the 18th century Wierschutzin was owned by the Cistercian nunnery Zarnowitz in the neighboring district Zarnowitz in West Prussia, where the village had heard since 1257; it had gotten there in Belgard of Swantopolk II bestowed with the consent of the Duke of Ratibor Pomerellen. During the rule of the Teutonic Knights in the region, which began in 1309, the village belonged to Voigtei Lewin castle. Around 1784, there was in the village a Barbican, a water mill, twelve farmers, four Kossäten, a tavern and a total of 31 households.

Before the end of World War II Wierschutzin seat of the administrative district Wierschutzin in the district of Lauenburg was i Pom. , Administrative region of Pomerania Pomerania. For administrative district included two municipalities:

  • Schlochow
  • Wierschutzin

After the end of World War II Wierschutzin was put together with all Pomerania under Polish administration. The village was then renamed Wierzchucino and assigned to the powiat Pucki ( circle Putzig ).

The population of Wierschutzin was Roman Catholic. 19845 Before the village was a Catholic parish, which was also responsible for a number of surrounding villages.
