Problems and Prospects

The increasing in recent years silting of the shallow waters and the associated algae jeopardize the continued existence of the lake in its current form. For this reason, the removal of approximately 460,000 m² sediment from the lake and reducing the area of the lake is planned around 10 acres. This project and the associated costs and planning (construction of a dam, expansion of the golf course, change of use of land) are the subject of some very controversial discussions held within the surrounding local communities, the municipality Westerburg and the state government. Although there were in the meantime to secure funding in the country for the desilting of the lake, the output seems currently open again.
