Wigwam Motel

The Wigwam Motels, also known as Wigwam Villages are built up in the 1930s - 50s, motels, which consist of individual, teepee -shaped concrete wigwams. Two of the three surviving motels are located on historic Route 66 in Holbrook, Arizona and on the border between Rialto and San Bernardino in California.

Wigwam Motel # 2 in Cave City was added to the National Register of Historic Places ( official cultural monument list of the U.S. federal government ) on 16 March 1988. The Wigwam Village # 6 followed on 2 May 2002.

The motels were in the Pixar movie Cars Cozy Cone Motel and parodied as in the video game GTA San Andreas.

History

Frank A. Redford announced the decorated with ornaments design of the building on 17 December 1935, design patent, which was granted to him as a Design Patent D98, 617 on 18 February 1936. The tipis have a circular base of 4.3 m and a height of 9.8 m.

Wigwam Villages

Wigwam Village # 1: Horse Cave, Kentucky

Built by Frank A. Redford in 1933. The Village was in 1935, closed again, as it was replaced by the nearby Village # 2. The buildings were demolished in 1982.

Wigwam Village # 2: Cave City, Kentucky

Wigwam Village # 2 was built in 1937 and consists of 15 residential wigwams, the restaurant boasts a large central semi-circular. Each wigwam can be reached by car and has its own parking space right next to it. The Village is located 601 North Dixie Hwy in Cave City, Kentucky. Wigwam Village # 3: New Orleans, Louisiana

Located just off U.S. Highway 51, 61 and 71, opened in 1940, was closed again in 1954.

Wigwam Village # 4: Orlando, Florida

Wigwam Village # 5: Bessemer, Alabama

North of Downtown Bessemer, Alabama erected on U.S. Highway 11, Bessemer 1940. The 15 -containing Wigwam Village was closed in 1964 again.

Wigwam Village # 6: Holbrook, Arizona
