Wil van der Aalst

Wil van der Aalst ( born January 29, 1966 in Eersel ) is a Dutch computer scientist who deals with process management. He is a professor at the Technical University of Eindhoven.

Wil van der Aalst studied at the Eindhoven University of Technology with a diploma in 1988 and his doctorate in mathematics in 1992 ( colored Petri nets Time and Their application to logistics ) with Jaap Wessels and Kees van Hee. After that, he was a lecturer and head of the group Specification and Modeling of Information System ( SMIS ) and in 2006 he received a full professorship and led the Architecture of Information Systems (AIS ) group. He also teaches part-time at the Queensland University of Technology.

Van der Aalst et al was Visiting professor in Karlsruhe, Frankfurt am Main, Aarhus and the University of Colorado.

It deals with workflow management, business process management, process mining, Petri nets, specification languages ​​and simulation. He is known for YAWL (Yet Another Workflow Language), an open source project for the development of a workflow language with workflow design patterns (Workflow Pattern), and ProM ( Process for Mining).

He is a member of the Royal Dutch Society of Sciences and the Academia Europaea. He belongs to the ISI Highly Cited Researchers.
