Wil–Winterthur railway line

The railway line Wil - Winterthur is a standard gauge railway line in the Swiss cantons of St. Gallen, Thurgau and Zurich and belongs to the Swiss Federal Railways ( SBB). The 27.19 km long line was opened in 1855 by the St. Gallo- Appenzell Railway.

History

The track was built in the heart of the Santa Gallo- Appenzell Railways, under the direction of engineer Julius and approved by the authorities on 28 September 1855.

The canton of Thurgau wanted to refuse the concession initially because the route would have the Thurgau not favored. The route Winterthur -Wil has been a part of the Swiss Federal Railways in the nationalization of the railways on 1 July 1902. From 1903 the line was extended in stages to double track and electrified in 1927.

In December 2006, was opened as part of the third phase of development of the Zurich S-Bahn stop the Winterthur Hegi.
