Eschlikon

Eschlikon is a municipality in the district of Münchwilen the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland, about six kilometers west of Wil SG.
Since 1 January 1997, comprises the villages Eschlikon, Wallenwil and Hurnen.
History
Eschlikon was first mentioned in 1280. The name derives from a man named Askilo, whose descendants were called Askilinge. This built in the region of today's Eschlikon their first farms that Askilinghöfe were called. From this it was formed over time and successively Askilinghofen Aschilinghofen, Äschlingkofen, Äschlingkon, Äschlikon and finally Esch Like, from which the present name Eschlikon was derived.
Population
Of the total of 3759 inhabitants ( 2008) 441 residents have foreign citizenship.
Economy and Transport
Brick and peat
For a long time deposited clay was by many farmers in the region, in a valley south of the village, dismantled and burnt in brick kilns hand to clay bricks. Later Johann Weibel built a Mechanical brickyard, which was from about 1898 to the 1960s, one of the leading industrial enterprises Eschlikons.
A second, not insignificant branch of industry was the peat-cutting. In the so-called Riet, a now-vanished peat bog, was stung with each onset of spring by the villagers peat, which could be used for domestic and industrial heating. Towards the end of the First World War saw the establishment of the Swiss Torfgenossenschaft (STG ) which peat cutting with machine help industrialized. Due to exhausted capacity of peat extraction on August 15, 1946 was finally stopped.
Today, more than 200 industrial and commercial enterprises are established in the territory of the municipality. The municipality promotes the growth.
Traffic
Eschlikon is on the railway line between Zurich - St. Gallen. With the S35 (Winterthur - Wil ) is the place to reach every half hour.
Attractions
The Catholic Church, "Brother Klaus" from 1963 has two concrete glass window of Yoki Aebischer (1964).

Education and Culture
The municipal area is the catchment area of a primary school community is Eschlikon ( public corporation ) in Hinterthurgau ( Südthurgau ).
For 30 years ( founding of the People Schulgemeinde Eschlikon 1982), the school in the community Eschlikon is organized in a public corporation, from kindergarten to 9th school year.
The elementary school community Eschlikon consists of three units:
- Nursery and Primary School Eschlikon
- Nursery and Primary School Wallenwil
- School Eschlikon
At the strategic level, the school board, under the direction of Susanna Koller Brunner school in Eschlikon and Wallenwil.
The operational tasks are performed by the headmaster. The kindergarten and primary school in Eschlikon and Wallenwil are under the direction of Thomas Minder ( headmaster KG / PS) since 2007. The Middle School (7th - 9th grade) is managed since 2006 by Philipp Rüdin -Pinto. Previously, the fate of the entire school over several years were led by Bruno Schüepp.
The community Eschlikon has two kindergartens and two primary schools, both in the villages and Eschlikon Wallenwil. A secondary school located in the village Eschlikon. Also you will find a library, as well as sports clubs, such as the local football club FC Eschlikon.
