Eschlikon is a municipality in the district of Münchwilen the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland, about six kilometers west of Wil SG.

Since 1 January 1997, comprises the villages Eschlikon, Wallenwil and Hurnen.

History

Eschlikon was first mentioned in 1280. The name derives from a man named Askilo, whose descendants were called Askilinge. This built in the region of today's Eschlikon their first farms that Askilinghöfe were called. From this it was formed over time and successively Askilinghofen Aschilinghofen, Äschlingkofen, Äschlingkon, Äschlikon and finally Esch Like, from which the present name Eschlikon was derived.

Brick and peat

For a long time deposited clay was by many farmers in the region, in a valley south of the village, dismantled and burnt in brick kilns hand to clay bricks.
