Braunau is a municipality in the district of Münchwilen the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland.

Braunau was probably mentioned as Pramacunauia first time in the year 762.

Geography

Braunau is on a small mountain pass to the south of the canton of Thurgau, called Hinterthurgau or Tannzapfenland, nestled between the mountain and the Braunau Braunau Höchi. At Braunau includes the villages of Beckingen, Hittingen and Oberhausen and 17 hamlets. North of the core community Braunau flows through the hard Auerbach, a tributary of leeks, from east to west the municipality. Towards the south of Braunau is drained by the meadow brook valleys through the meadow valley towards Bronschhofen.

Population

The 685 inhabitants ( 2010) are divided into 267 households. 47 % of residents are Protestant Reformed, Catholic 35%, while 5% have a different denomination and the remainder considered to belong to any faith. 51 residents are foreign citizenship. 33 people work as farmers.
