Wilbrand van Oldenburg

Wilbrand of Oldenburg ( * before 1180, † July 26, 1233 in Zwolle, Netherlands) was bishop of Paderborn and Utrecht.

His father was Count Henry II of Oldenburg, his mother Beatrix von Haller mouth. His uncle Gerhard von Oldenburg was Bishop of Osnabrück (1192-1216), then Archbishop of Bremen ( 1216-1219 ).

From 1211 to 1212 Wilbrand took of Oldenburg as Hildesheimer canon in the order of Emperor Otto IV in preparation for his crusade a reconnaissance trip to the Holy Land (esp. Cilicia ). He has also terre depth coverage sancte in his itinerary. He was accompanied by a master of the Knights and in 1210 elected to the office of Grand Master of the Teutonic Knights, Hermann of Salza.

In 1225 he was elected bishop of Paderborn. When Pope Honorius III. him beginning in 1227 (?) instructed to proceed in his diocese against all opponents Emperor, he threw down the counts of Schwalenberg (see Volkwin IV of Schwalenberg ). Because of his military talent, he was also bishop of Utrecht in 1227, where he tried to subdue rebellious peasants in protracted struggles. He is buried in the Cistercian monastery of St. Servatius in Utrecht.

During his Hildesheimer time he probably donated the precious bronze font of the Hildesheim Cathedral.
