Wilf McGuinness

Wilfred "Will" McGuinness ( born October 25, 1937 in Manchester ) is an English former football player and football coach.

Career

As a youth player was McGuinness captain of Manchester, Lancashire and England. In January 1953, the British signed a contract with Manchester United as a player. His team debut was on October 8, 1953 against Wolverhampton Wanderers. The first major title he took on as a substitute in 1956, McGuinness was with Man Utd champions. Also in 1958 the year of the airplane tragedy in Munich, he was still playing, but the Englishman was not on the plane due to an injury. This injury caused McGuinness and his untimely end career at age 22.

When he had as an amateur coach at Manchester United his first coaching job. In 1969 after the resignation of Matt Busby took over the team McGuinness. However, due to its lack of success, he remained only five months head coach. After the Red Devils, he became a coach in Greece Aris Salonika. McGuinness ' last club as head coach was York City. After that he was only an assistant coach at Hull City and Bury FC.

McGuinness son Paul is currently coach of the U-18 team of Manchester United.
