Wilhelm Jacoby

William Jacoby ( born March 8, 1855 in Mainz, † February 20, 1925 in Wiesbaden ) was a German comedy writer.

Life

Jacoby was born on March 8, 1855, son of the headman Institute and later publisher FA Jacoby in Mainz. He first worked in the book trade, began as a bookseller, which he broke off, and then became editor of the Lower Silesian indicator in Glogau.

In 1878 he returned to Mainz and took over the editorship of the Mainz daily paper. In Mainz Jacoby worked as carnivalist, was a member of the Mainz Carnival Club and from 1884 to 1889 and its president in MCV he met Carl run. Together they wrote in the following years a number of carnivalesque texts and pieces. This collaboration also Jacoby's most famous piece, Pension Schoeller, which was premiered in Berlin in 1890 was born. In addition, he has authored numerous comical antics and opera texts.

1892 Jacoby inherited his father's bookshop in Wiesbaden and settled there as a freelance writer.

His son, Georg Jacoby, was a well known author and director. His final resting place he found on the South Cemetery in Wiesbaden.
