Wilhelm Melcher

Wilhelm Melcher ( born April 5, 1940 in Hamburg; † 5 March 2005) was from 1965 until his death violinist of the Melos Quartet.

Life

At the age of 7 he received his first violin lessons from his father in 1950, he was inducted into the class of Erich Rohn, the longtime first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, with whom he studied until 1961. In July 1958 Melcher took together with the age-matched Christoph Eschenbach two Mozart sonatas for the radio Wolfgang loved by God on the Deutsche Grammophon label, for which he received a bicycle as a "Fee ". 1961-1963 he was a fellow of the German National Academic Foundation.
