Wilhelm von Rümann

William of Rümann ( born November 11, 1850 in Hannover, † February 6, 1906 in Ajaccio, Corsica ), was a German sculptor.

Life

Rümann studied from 1872 to 1874 at the Munich Art Academy, then to 1880 when Michael Wagmüller. From 1887, he taught as a professor at the Art Academy in Munich. In 1891 he was raised to the peerage.

In addition to numerous tombs in the Old South Cemetery in Munich, he created sculptures that are in the cityscape still visible today: Monuments for Georg Simon Ohm (1895 in the courtyard of the Technical University ), Max von Pettenkofer (1909 ) and Carl von Effner ( 1886) on the Maximilian Platz (today Lenbachplatz ), the figurine fountain at the peace Memorial Prinzregentenstraße ( originally scheduled for Herrenchiemsee Castle ) and the lions in front of the field Marshals' Hall ( 1906).

Among his pupils were Bernhard Bleeker, Jacob Hofmann, Moissey Kogan, Martin Scheible, Georg Schreyögg and Alois Mayer.

His grave is located at the Munich North Cemetery.
