Will Eisenmann

Will Eisenmann ( born March 3, 1906 in Stuttgart, † 20 August 1992 Schwarzenberg LU) from Germany originating, living in Switzerland, but stateless composer.

Life

Will Eisenmann initially studied art history and philosophy and 1926-1929 Music at the University of Music Württemberg in Stuttgart. He was assistant director of the Württemberg State theaters and the State Opera in Wiesbaden. In the early 1930s he sat on the recommendation of Romain Rolland continued his studies in Paris with Paul Dukas and Charles Koechlin, and was then worked as a dramaturge and director at the Kölner Schauspielhaus. After a stay in Spain in 1935, he emigrated to Switzerland and founded private opera studio in Zurich and Lucerne.

Will Eisenmann became known with his orchestral work " Seven Shots" Van Gogh, "Haiku I-III ", two saxophone concertos and the Rilke setting " Orpheus, Eurydice, Hermes ' with speaking voice.

With settings of texts by Stefan George, Hermann Hesse, Stefan Heym, Ezra Pound, Rainer Maria Rilke, Rabindranath Tagore and Japanese poets, which he performed with the renowned vocal ensemble Zurich, he also gained international acquaintance.

Will Eisenmann was married three times. With his first wife Elisabeth Louis he had three sons with his second wife, Eva Westphal four sons, his third marriage with Hannah Willi sprang a son.
