Willapa Bay

The Willapa Bay is a bay in Pacific County of the U.S. state of Washington. It is about 38 km long and 17 km wide and is separated by the Long Beach Peninsula by the Pacific Ocean. In the bay are the islands of Long Iceland and Grassy Iceland. The rivers Willapa River and Naselle River empty into the bay. At the bay limits the Leadbetter Point State Park and the Shoalwater Indian Reservation, also there are some smaller towns and unincorporated settlements. The region lives on fishing and oyster farming. About 9 % of the annual oyster production in the United States comes from the Willapa Bay. The Willapa oysters are among the best oysters, which are produced in the United States.

The Willapa Bay is known for its biodiversity, with a large part of the bay was found to be Willapa National Wildlife Refuge under protection. The reserve is managed by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
