Willard Mullin

Willard Mullin ( born September 14, 1902 in Franklin (Ohio ), † 20 December 1978) was an American sports cartoonist. His most famous work was the "Brooklyn Bum ", a baseball cartoon series over the Brooklyn Dodgers.

As a young man Mullin had an accident at work which he swore to become an artist. He was an employee of the Los Angeles Herald newspaper and learned the photo retouching with the brush and working under time pressure. He drew cartoons for the paper soon. Its particularly vivid style became known and appreciated. After 12 years at the " Herald " he went to New York City and published daily cartoons for the EW Scripps Company in the newspaper New York World -Telegram and Sun for decades and was also published in the magazines Sporting News or Collier's.
