Willem van Mieris

Willem van Mieris (* June 3, 1662 in Leiden, † January 26, 1747 in Leiden ) was a Dutch genre, historical and portrait painter who worked in the tradition of justified by Gerard Dou Leyden fine painting school. His father was the famous Dou - pupil Frans van Mieris the Elder, Jan van Mieris was his older brother.

Life

After his apprenticeship in his father's studio was Willem van Mieris 1683 Member of the Leiden St.Lukas guild. As a guild captain, he served in the years 1697, 1698, 1704 and 1708. In 1699 he was the guild president. Along with Jacob van Toorenvliet and Carel de Moor, he founded a drawing academy in 1694 ( the Leidse Tekenacademie ) in Leiden, the to 1736 had stock. It is believed that Willem van Mieris from about this time is increasingly blind.
