Willi Wülbeck

Willi Wülbeck ( born December 18, 1954 in Oberhausen ) is a former German track and field athlete and Olympian, who belonged in the 1970s and 1980s to the world's best 800 -meter runners.

His greatest achievement was the victory at the World Championships in 1983 ( 1:43,65 min, German record ). At the Olympics 1976 he was fourth ( 1:45,26 min).

Willi Wülbeck was also from 1974 to 1983 ten consecutive time German champion, third at the 1973 Junior European Championships ( 1:47,57 min ), 1974 and 1982 European Championships and eighth in the 1977 and 1983 winner of the European Cup. His German records over 800 m ( 1:43,65 min) and 1000m ( 2:14,53 min on 1 July 1980 in Oslo) remains unbroken to date.

He started to 1974 for red -Weiß Oberhausen, 1975-1977 for the SG Osterfeld and from 1978 for the TV Wattenscheid. In his playing days, he was 1.86 m tall and weighed 71 kg. Wülbeck studied from 1977 to 1984 Physical Education and Biology. In 1986, he ended his sports career and worked in the PR department of a sporting goods manufacturer and as a freelance journalist for RTL. Later he founded a sports marketing agency. He lives in Oberhausen.

From 1992 to 2006 he was Chairman of the Athletics Association ASV Duisburg.

In 2010 he opened his own sports school.
