William A. Sackett

William Augustus Sackett ( born November 18, 1811 in Aurelius, New York; † 6 September 1895 in Saratoga Springs, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1849 and 1853 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Augustus Sackett was born about seven months before the outbreak of the British - American War in Cayuga County. He attended private schools and the Aurora Academy. In 1831 he moved to Seneca Falls in Seneca County. He studied law. After receiving his license to practice law in 1834 he began to practice in Seneca Falls.

Politically he belonged to the Whig party. In the congressional elections of 1848 for the 31 Congress he was on the 27th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Esbon Blackmar on March 4, 1849. He was re-elected once and then retired after the March 3, 1853 from the Congress of.

After his conference, he took time in Seneca Falls resume his duties as a lawyer on. In 1857, he moved to Saratoga Springs. Sackett was register in bankruptcy under the Bankruptcy Act of 1867. He died on 6 September 1895 in Saratoga Springs. His body was then buried in Green Ridge Cemetery.
