The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation is a philanthropic society that promotes since 1966 projects in the social and developmental sector. The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation is the sixth largest philanthropic company in the USA and has an estimated 8 billion total assets. Every year invested 200 million U.S. dollars in projects. William Hewlett, who called the Foundation along with his wife Flora and his son Walter to life, is co-founder of technology company Hewlett -Packard.

The Foundation is particularly active in the field of Open Educational Resources and participated in particular at the start of the MIT OpenCourseWare, the pioneer in the field of Free Internet courses, and at the Open Yale Courses.
