William Astor, 4th Viscount Astor

William Waldorf Astor, 4th Viscount Astor (* December 27, 1951 ) is a British nobleman and Conservative politician.

Life

Astor is the only son of William Waldorf Astor, 3rd Viscount Astor, making it one of the famous American- British Astor family. He attended Eton College.

In 1966 he inherited when his father died its title. At the age of 21 years he took his seat in the 1972 House of Lords. Since 1990, Astor was there Whip. In 1993, he was Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Social Affairs, in the following year he moved to the Ministry of National Heritage (now part of the cult, Media and Sport Ministry ). In 1995 he resigned from the government. Since his party is in opposition, he acts as spokesperson on different areas in the Upper House.

Even after the reform of the Upper House in 1999 Astor will continue to sit there as one of the 90 members who are elected by the carriers of hereditary titles of nobility.

Family

Astor is married to Annabel Jones since 1976. The couple has two sons and a daughter. Viscountess Astor from her first marriage to Sir Reginald Sheffield, 8th Baronet, two daughters, one of which is married to the chairman of the Conservative Party David Cameron.
