William B. Cooper (NC politician)

William Bryant Cooper ( born January 22, 1867 in Cool Springs, South Carolina, † November 9, 1959 ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who was from 1921 to 1925 Vice- Governor of the State of North Carolina.

Career

Cooper was the son of Noah Bryant and Lucinda Jennette Cooper. He attended the public schools of Mullins, South Carolina. In 1893 he married Frances Ada then Gore. He was a well-known banker and businessman in New Hanover County, North Carolina. He was first a member and later president of the Chamber of Commerce of Wilmington. In 1910 he became a member of the Board of Trade. He was also the president of the Masonic Temple Corporation.

He won the Democratic primary in 1920 for the office of Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, beating its competitors in Fordyce C. Harding. In subsequent general election, he could against the Republican challenger Irvin B. Tucker and the Socialists HC Beuck claim. After the former constitution, he was not entitled to serve a second term. During this time he was also the President of the Senate in two regular and two special sessions.
