William Bradshaw, Baron Bradshaw

William Peter Bradshaw, Baron Bradshaw, known as Bill Bradshaw ( born September 9, 1936) is a British politician ( Liberal Democrats ) and high school teachers.

Life and career

Bradshaw was born in 1936, the son of Leonard and Ivy Bradshaw. He attended Slough Grammar School and the University of Reading. He studied political science and earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1957. In 1960 he graduated with a Master of Arts. Bradshaw was registered in 1966 as a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport ( MCIT ).

After his military service (1957-1959) he worked from 1959 to 1985 for British Rail. There was initially hired as a trainee. In 1967, he was Senior Vice President ( Division Manager) in Bristol, 1973 in Liverpool. In 1976 he became manager ( Chief Operations Manager) at the Midland Region, 1977 Deputy Director General ( Deputy General Manager ) of the London Midland Region. In 1978 he became director of operations ( Director of Operations ) at the headquarters of British Rail, there in 1980 then Head of the Department (Policy Unit).

From 1983 to 1985 he was Director General (General Manager ) of the Western Region of British Rail.

After leaving British Rail Bradshaw from 1986 to 1992 as a professor of transportation management at the University of Salford active. From 1987 to 1993 he was chairman of Ulsterbus, a transport company, and Citybus Ltd., Belfast. Bradshaw was from 1988 to 1993 director of the Northern Ireland Transport Holding Co. From 1992 to 2000 he was a visiting professor at the University of Salford affiliated School of Management. From 1997 to 1999 he was director of Lothian Regional Transport. From 1992 to 1997 he was Special Advisor to the Special Committee on the Transport ( Transport Select Committee ) of the House of Commons. From 1993 until his resignation in January 2008, he was a town councilor in Oxfordshire. From 1993 to 1995 and from 1997 to 2008 he was a member of the Thames Valley Police Authority, from 1999 to 2003 the Deputy Chairman ( "Vice - Chairman ").

In 2001 he was a member of the " Commission for Integrated Transport ". From 1999 to 2001 he was a member of the British Railways Board ( Shadow Strategic Rail Authority).

Membership in the House of Lords

Bradshaw was appointed Life peer as Baron Bradshaw, of Wallingford in the County of Oxfordshire in 1999. In the House of Lords since 2001 he is spokesman for his party for the transport sector. When his political interests he gives to the transport system, environmental protection, planning and police matters. Since 2007 he has been co-opted member of the Subcommittee "B" for questions of the European Union ( EU Sub - committee B) (Internal Market) internal market. Since 2008 he has been Deputy Chairman ( "Vice - Chair" ) of the " Transportation Safety Group ".

Honors

Since 2004 he is a Fellow of Wolfson College Honorable. From 1988 to 2003 he was previously Supernumerary Fellow.

Family

In 1957 he married Jill Hayward, with whom he has two children. She died in 2002. Bradshaw 2003 Diana married Ayris.
