William C. Rodgers

William C. Rodgers (also known under the pseudonym of Avalon, * 1965, † 21 December, 2005 Flagstaff ) was an American bookseller and eco - activist.

Life

In the late 1980s Rodgers visited the Prescott College in Prescott, Arizona. There, his interest intensified on activism and environmental citizenship and he participated in actions of Earth First! in Idaho and other western U.S. states. Together with his partner Katie Rose Nelson in 2003 founded the Catalyst Infoshop in Prescott and Bookstore. This was mainly a center for the dissemination of information and the development of and debate on issues surrounding the environment, nature and animal welfare. In the social meeting place but also a variety of community events were organized, such as a high school girls club, knitting classes, philosophical discussion groups and courses for sustainable living. In addition, numerous artists came on.

On 7 December 2005 Rodgers was arrested along with five colleagues in the FBI operation " Backfire ". Investigators accused him in the arson at the National Wildlife Research Center in Olympia, Washington, to have been implicated in June 1998, which the Earth Liberation Front (ELF ) is overloaded. In addition, he participated in a conspiratorial meeting of the ELF in western Colorado, said to have been on the arson attack on a ski resort in Vail, Colorado planned. The FBI accused him that he was a criminal mastermind and perpetrators as well as the anonymous author of Scripture Setting Fire with Electrical Timers on Earth Liberation Front Guide. This paper explains detail the construction of an unconventional explosive and incendiary device which is known as "cat 's cradle ". According to information the authorities were after this guide was published and circulated, no longer in a position to judge with certainty which of the ELF arson attacks cell could be attributed to Rodgers and in which not.

On 21 December 2005 harvester committed suicide in his prison cell suicide by a plastic bag pulled over his head. His farewell letter he sent to numerous friends:

Rodgers had after his death lasting impact in the scene and in various anarchist and militant ecological movements. Several actions were posthumously perpetrated in its name - such as the liberation of 28 beagle puppies from the Facultad de Veterinaria of the Autonomous University of Madrid by the Animal Liberation Front and the arson at a home construction site in Guelph, Ontario, in January 2006.
