William Cavendish-Bentinck, 7th Duke of Portland

William Arthur Henry Cavendish - Bentinck, 7th Duke of Portland KG (* March 16, 1893, † March 21, 1977 ), until 1943 known as Marquess of Titchfield, was a British politician of the Conservative Party.

Life and career

Cavendish Bentinck in 1893 as a senior son of William Cavendish Bentinck, 6th Duke of Portland, born and his wife Winifred Anna Dallas - Yorke. He attended Eton College. From 1922 to 1943 he was MP for Newark in the House of Commons. From 1927 to 1929, and 1931 he was Minister of each subordinate to the Treasury. 1943 Cavendish - Bentinck inherited when his father died the title and the associated seat in the House of Lords. He was also from 1939 to 1963 Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire.

Family

Since August 12, 1915 Cavendish Bentinck was married to Ivy Gordon - Lennox. From this marriage two daughters were born. At his death his titles fell to a distant cousin. The headquarters of Welbeck Abbey family inherited the surviving daughter of Cavendish Bentinck.
