William Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington

William John Robert Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington ( born December 10, 1917September 10, 1944 in Belgium ) was a British aristocrat who became a husband of John F. Kennedy's sister Kathleen particular reputation.

Life

He was the eldest son of Edward Cavendish, 10th Duke of Devonshire and Mary Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire. Since his father had in 1937 inherited the title of Duke of Devonshire, he led the courtesy title Marquess of Hartington. '

Cavendish married on May 6, 1944 against the wishes of his mother Rose, the US-American Kathleen Agnes Kennedy, who thus became the Marchioness of Hartington.

He served in World War II in the Coldstream Guards. About four months after the wedding Cavendish died during heavy fighting in Heppen in Belgium by a bullet fired by a sniper. The title of his father thus not inherited William, but his younger brother Andrew Cavendish.
