William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry
William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry (* 1637, † March 28, 1695 ) was a Scottish nobleman.
William was a son of James Douglas, 2nd Earl of Queensberry and his wife Margaret Stewart of Traquair.
Douglas was Scottish Privy Counsellor, 1680-1682 Lord Justice General (Chief Justice ) and then to 1686 Lord High Treasurer of Scotland. He opposed the ecclesiastical policy of King James II and held from 1686 to 1689 the office of Lord President of the Privy Council.
He married 1657 Isabel, daughter of William Douglas, 1st Marquess of Douglas with whom he had the following children:
- James Douglas, 2nd Duke of Queensberry ( 1672-1711 )
- Anne († 1700 ) ∞ 1697 David Wemyss, 4th Earl of Wemyss
- William Douglas ( † 1705), 1st Earl of March, 1693 ∞ Jane Hay of Tweeddale, he was the grandfather of William Douglas, 4th Duke of Queensberry.
