James Douglas, 2nd Duke of Queensberry

James Douglas, 2nd Duke of Queensberry KG ( born December 18, 1672July 6, 1711 ) was a Scottish nobleman and politician.

James was a son of William Douglas, 1st Duke of Queensberry, and his wife Isabel Douglas. He succeeded his father as Duke of Queensberry in 1695. He was educated at Glasgow University and was then Scottish Privy Councillor. In the Glorious Revolution, he was on the side of King William III.

James Douglas was Lord High Treasurer of Scotland (1693-1695), Keeper of the Privy Seal (1695-1702) and Lord High Commissioner of the Parliament of Scotland, since 1702 the Secretary of State, he joined in 1704 because of his indecisive attitude towards the Jacobites of this office back. In 1705 he was re Keeper of the Privy Seal of Scotland and 1709 until his death in Secretary of State of Scotland.

1708 he was appointed Duke of Dover, Marquess of Beverley and Earl of Ripon.

The Duke was married to Mary since 1685 († 1709), daughter of Charles Boyle, 2nd Baron Clifford of Lanesborough, with whom he had the following children:
