William Fiero Russell

William Fiero Russell ( born January 14, 1812 in Saugerties, New York, † April 29, 1896 ) was an American politician. Between 1857 and 1859 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Fiero Russell was born about five months before the outbreak of the British - American War in Saugerties in Ulster County and grew up there. He completed his preliminary studies. After that he went commercial and banking transactions after. Russell was the founder and president of the Saugerties Bank. On October 19, 1836, he was postmaster in Saugerties - a position that he held until 25 January 1841. He sat in 1851 in the New York State Assembly. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1856 for the 35th Congress Russell was in the eleventh electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Rufus H. King on March 4, 1857. He retired after the March 3, 1859 out of the Congress.

After his time, he was Congress 1859 Naval Agent in Port of New York City appointed. Then he went back to banking transactions. He started up in 1876 as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in St. Louis in part. On April 29, 1896, he died in Saugerties and was then buried at the Mountain View Cemetery.
