William Flannery

William Edward Flannery ( born November 17, 1898 in Ohio; † January 25, 1959 in Los Angeles, California ) was an American art director and production designer, who at the Oscar ceremony 1956 Oscar for Best Production Design in the color film Picnic (1955 ) won.

Life

Flannery began his career as an art director and production designer in the film industry in Hollywood in 1937 with the film Forlorn River, and worked throughout his career in the production of over fifty films.

At the Academy Awards in 1955, he shared with Jo and Robert Priestley Mielziner the Oscar for Best Production Design in the color film Picnic (1954 ), a shot by Joshua Logan Filmmelodram with William Holden, Kim Novak and Betty Field in the lead roles.
