Biography

Even as a 14 -year-old concerted William Lloyd Webber as organist at various churches in London, England. He studied at the Royal College of Music, among others, Ralph Vaughan Williams. As there was another student by the name of William Webber at the College, William used his third name Lloyd now on as part of his surname. In 1938 he was organist and choirmaster at All Saints, and later in Central Hall, Westminster, an important Methodist Church. The first compositions were created in the 30s.

In 1942 he married the pianist and violinist Jean Johnstone. The marriage produced two sons, Andrew went (* 1948) and Julian ( b. 1951 ) produced. Between 1945 and mid-1950s, Lloyd Webber has composed vocal and instrumental music, choral and organ works, chamber music and orchestral works. Then he was appointed professor of music theory and composition at the Royal College of Music in London; from 1964 until his death he was director of the college.
