William Orlando Smith

William Orlando Smith ( born June 13, 1859 in Reynoldsville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, † May 12, 1932 in Cleveland, Ohio ) was an American politician. Between 1903 and 1907 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

William Smith attended the public schools of his home and then completed an apprenticeship in the printing trade. In the following years he worked in the printing and newspaper industry. From 1876 to 1879 he edited the newspaper Reynoldsville Herald. He then worked until 1884 in the Federal Printing in Washington DC Then he moved to Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, where he moved two newspapers. He also was in Bradford published a newspaper. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. From 1889 to 1898 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1902, Smith was elected in the 27th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he succeeded the Democrat Joseph C. Sibley on March 4, 1903. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1907 two legislative sessions. In 1906 he gave up another candidacy. After his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, Mr. Smith again in the newspaper industry in Punxsutawney. He died on 12 May 1932 in Cleveland and was buried in Punxsutawney.
