William Seeds

William Seeds KCMG (* June 27, 1882 in Dublin, † 2 November 1973 ) was a British diplomat.

Life

Seeds studied in Rugby. From September 1899 to June 1900 he spent in Saint Petersburg and studied Russian. William Seeds joined the Foreign Service in 1904 and was at the embassy in Washington, DC accredited. From 1919 to 1920 seeds was an English officer in Berlin. From November 1920 to August 1923 was William Seeds British Consul General for Bavaria in Munich. In March 1935, Seeds reported ill, which is why he was not appointed for three years as ambassador to Lisbon, and retired to his country seat at Fairfield Lymington.

Since Aretas Akers -Douglas, 2nd Viscount Chilston 1933 had taken up his last post as ambassador in Moscow, Seeds hoped for a nomination as successor after his retirement and took Russian lessons. On April 2, 1938 Edward Frederick Lindley Wood offered, 1st Earl of Halifax Seeds to the ambassadorship in Moscow and Seeds agreed to post. On January 28th, 1939 Seeds presented his credentials to Mikhail Ivanovich Kalinin, and Maxim Litvinov Maximowitsch.
