William Wallace Brown

William Wallace Brown ( born April 22, 1836 in Summerhill, Cayuga County, New York, † November 4, 1926 in Bradford, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1838 William Brown came with his parents in the Elk County, Pennsylvania, where he later the public schools and the Smethport Academy visited. Then he studied until 1861 at Alfred University in Allegany County, New York. In 1861 he joined after the outbreak of the civil war in the army of the Union, where he served first at a unit of New York and later with one from the state of Pennsylvania. In 1864 he was registrar (Recorder) in McKean County, Pennsylvania; in 1866 he was school board in this district.

After studying law and his 1866 was admitted as an attorney Brown began to work in this profession. In the same year he was elected district attorney. 1869 Brown moved according to Corry, where he spent three years working legally for the local administration. In addition, he sat there for two years in the city council. Politically, he joined the Republican Party. Between 1872 and 1876 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. In 1876, he also belonged to the staff of the Governor. Moreover, he became a member of the National Guard of his state. Since 1878 he lived in Bradford, where he practiced law.

In the congressional elections of 1882, Brown was in the 16th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Robert Jarvis Cochran Walker on March 4, 1883. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1887 two legislative sessions. In 1886, he was not nominated by his party for re-election.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives to Brown operated again as a lawyer. Between 1892 and 1897 he was the legal representative of the city of Bradford. He then worked 1897-1899 as an auditor for the War Department; 1899 to 1907 he held the same job in the Navy Department. After that, he was employed until 1910 at the Federal Ministry of Justice, where he was entrusted with the demands of the peace treaty with Spain in 1898. He then continued his legal practice. William Brown died on 4 November 1926 in Bradford.
