William Yeager

William Yeager ( born June 16, 1940 in San Francisco), which is often called Bill Yeager, is an American engineer.

Yeager worked for four years at AMES Research Laboratory at the NASA Pioneer program. Subsequently he worked for almost 20 years at Stanford University. There he wrote a 1979 serial FTP program, which was later renamed in Kermit for a revision at Columbia University.

Around 1980 he developed together with Sandra Lerner and Len Boseck, the founders of Cisco, multi-protocol routers, which were licensed in 1986 by Cisco.

He invented there also the basis for IMAP and wrote the first IMAP server for UNIX.

Since 1994 he is employed at Sun Microsystems, where he worked in various programs.
