Willie Mosconi

William Joseph " Willie" Mosconi (* June 27, 1913 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, † September 12, 1993 in Haddon Heights, New Jersey, United States) was an American pool billiards player. Between 1941 and 1957 he won the world title thirteen times.

He is also endlessly until now the world record holder of the highest in the series to pool, 14 and 1. On 19 March 1954 he managed, during a show battle in Springfield, Ohio to punch 526 balls at a time.

Through numerous exhibition matches and his books Willie 's Game and Willie Mosconi on Pocket Billiards he contributed greatly to the popularity of the sport. He also advised the actor of the film The Hustler ( engl. The Hustler ) at the pool scenes in the film and has a guest appearance. In 1980 he had a Cameoauftritt in the comedy The Man from Baltimore.

Willie Mosconi honor is annually since 1994 held the Mosconi Cup between Europe and the United States. Since 1967 he is a member of the Hall of Fame of the Billiard Congress of America.
