Wisenta

The Wisenta is about a 55 km-long right tributary of the Saale in the eastern and Saale- Orla-Kreis and Vogtland district of Thuringia and Saxony, Germany.

Origin of the name

The name of the river is a popular etymological reinterpretation of the Old High German wisa or the Middle High German wise. This means grass or lawn space and refers to the flows through the valley, which was eponymous.

Course

The Wisenta rises about 2 km west of the village Rothacker, part of the Thuringian town of Tanna. Your source is located on the eastern flank of the wooded mountain Rosenbühls ( 653.3 m above sea level. NHN ) to about 605 m altitude.

First, the Wisenta flows to the northeast between the villages in the south-southeast Rothacker and Willersdorf in the north-northwest through. They passed the Zeidelbrunnen (approx. 565 m) and the Otten mill (approx. 535 m), which stands on the line connecting the two villages each county road 308. Then opens out from the south of the small Schwarzenbach. Some further north flows through the Wisenta the small Saxon town Mühltroff where you accrue until the little king brook, and is then bridged by the federal highway 282. There the small Langenbacher Bach opens a (approx. 476 m). Just below the village is bypassed by a 16 m long bridge which will then turn the river accompanying railway Schoenberg Schleiz ( Wisentatalbahn ). Then it passes the Lippold mill, after which it flows to the Zeitera coming from the southwest.

After that turns the Wisenta, now back and up to her mouth in Thuringia running, towards the north- north-west to Long book, a ostsüdöstlichen district of the town Schleiz where near the river are the forest homes. Shortly after it flows through the dam Lössau ( 453.8 m, 34 ha); from the north end of the reservoir can water over the Wisentastollen to the northeast or Weckersdorf in the small forest stream, which flows into the Weida, are derived. Below the dam passes through the Wisenta, now running westward, which belongs to Schleiz village Lössau. After passing of Heuschkelshof, the Schmidt mill and the mill Burkhart it runs at something situated above the river Schleizer district Wüstendittersdorf over with the Feldschlößchen where it is bridged by Federal Highway 94. Then it flows past the wooden mill ( approximately 430 m ) and at the fed by separate line of their defense pond. Then it passes through the Schleizer core city in which they crossed at about 425 m altitude, the Federal Highway 2 and where the river accompanying railway Schoenberg Schleiz ends. Then the Wisenta continues to flow westward through the dam Wisenta ( 389 m, 28 ha), located on the border of the municipality Schleiz Crispendorf and to which the pumped storage plant is Wisenta. Below the dam flows from the north of the small Erkmannsdorfer Bach a, after which it passes through the northern villages of Crisp village Dörflas chess rocks.

A few Flusschleifen below this rock flows coming from the east at the Wisenta Walsburg, in the municipality of Eßbach, to around 320 m in the flowing there from southeast zoom Elbe- Saale tributary.
