Witness Mangwende

Witness Pasichigare Magunda Mangwende (* October 15, 1946 in Buhera, Manicaland, Rhodesia, † 26 February 2005 in Harare, Zimbabwe ) was a Zimbabwean politician and among other longtime foreign minister, of the least controversial ministers in the government of President Robert Mugabe was.

Life

After schooling completed Mangwende a study at the University of Zimbabwe and was active there as a leader of the student movement. Later he took a degree in International Relations at the University of London and graduated from with a Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D.).

Mangwende was 1981 already. , One year after independence from Great Britain on 18 April 1980, as the successor of Simon Muzenda as Foreign Minister of Zimbabwe This post he held for seven years until its replacement by Nathan Shamuyarira 1988.

He then took over in 1988, the Office of the Minister of Information, Posts and Telecommunications and was after re- transformation of the government of President Mugabe in 1990 Minister of lands, agriculture and rural settlement. 1992 appointed him Mugabe at a recent cabinet reshuffle as Minister of Education and Culture, before he was finally between 1995 and 1997 Minister for Sport, Recreation and Culture. After Mangwende several years held a ministerial post, he was appointed by President Mugabe to the Minister of Transport and Communications in 2002 and belonged to the Cabinet in this capacity until 2004.

During his eighteen-year government affiliation he was considered one of the least controversial ministers in the Cabinet Mugabe.

Last was Mangwende 2004 provincial governor of Harare and held that office until his death in 2005.
