Witold Szalonek

Witold Szalonek ( born March 2, 1927 in Czechowice- Dziedzice; † 12 October 2001 in Berlin) was a Polish composer.

Szalonek studied from 1949 to 1956 piano at the Music Academy in Katowice in Wanda Chmielowska and composition with Bolesław Woytowicz. He took part in the Darmstadt summer courses and was 1962-1963 student of Nadia Boulanger in Paris. In 1956 he became assistant professor in 1966 and 1972 Rector. At the invitation of the German Academic Exchange Service, he was in the early 1970s, artist in residence and from 1973 professor at the University of the Arts in West Berlin. In the following years he gave seminars and courses in Poland, Denmark, Germany, Finland and Slovakia.

He composed mostly chamber works in different occupation and works for various solo instruments, a cantata, a ballad for two choirs and other choral works, songs and incidental music.
