The Witthoh is a ridge ( 862 m above sea level. NN ), mountain views, and location of a transmission tower south of Tuttlingen in Baden- Württemberg.

Geography and Landscape

The mountain lies between Tuttlingen and Hattingen Emmingen. He is a part of the ridge, the Egg, which in turn is part of the Hegaualb between the Swabian Alb and Lake Constance. On the north side it is entirely covered with dense forest, to the south is dominated by meadows, fields and farmsteads.

The mountain range separates the harsh climate of the Alps from the milder influence of Lake Constance. Nature is south of the Witthoh in the spring at least three weeks more than in northern Danube Valley. The ridge is part of the main European watershed between the North Sea and Black Sea. On the south side down motion precipitation flows over Lake Constance and the Rhine into the North Sea, while drain -lying areas north of the Danube into the Black Sea.

You can reach the Witthoh across the street from Emmingen from Egg to Hattingen.

From Tuttlingen, there is another possibility on the Witthohsteige. This narrow, already present in the 18th century street has at the beginning a steep climb ( up to 14% ) and then performs a high street ( so on the topographic maps ) on the plateau to the Witthoh. You must be traveled by motor vehicles on weekdays only, during the winter months it is closed to motor vehicles.

About the Witthohsteige also leads the Hohenzollern bike path, which passes close to the broadcast tower. Cyclists who are traveling on the Danube bike path that brings you to a signposted and paved, slightly rising, six kilometers of bike path through the Goggen and Rabental on the Witthoh from the Mohringer suburb.

Tourism and Sport

With hiking trails of Witthoh from the south is developed by the ways of the Black Forest Association, from the north through the paths of the Swabian Alp Association since Emmingen formerly belonged to Baden, Tuttlingen but Württemberg.

When hiking and mountain views of Witthoh is busy, especially at weekends and in clear weather from hundreds of walkers. On clear days, the distant view of the Bavarian Alps from the Zugspitze mountain ranges in the east to far to the southwest of the four thousand meter peaks of the Bernese Oberland, which corresponds to a length of about 300 kilometers. The Ski Club Emmingen (SV 1922 Emmingen from Egg eV / department Ski) operates the ski lodge and managed for cross-country skiers the Witthohloipe. It consists of a 8.5 kilometer circuit for classic style and a combined skating and diagonal track with around 5 kilometers in length.

Chapel at Witthoh

In 2003, the Chapel of St. John, and James was built on Witthoh. Builder of the chapel was the then CEO of Aesculap AG & Co. KG Tuttlingen, Michael monster. The chapel was designed by architect Günter Hermann (Stuttgart and Tuttlingen ) and consecrated on 13 September 2003 as part of a festive worship service from Arch-Abbot of the Abbey Beuron, Theodor Hogg. The chapel is known and permitted through the windows of the chancel a view of the Hegau because of their unique architecture. The small building was awarded a prize in 2005 was awarded the " Award of Architectural Association of German Architects ".

Laughing Stone

On the Witthoh is also the Laughing Stone. This is a landmark, which once divided the counties of Hohenberg, Furstenberg and Nellenburg. In addition, a memorial is in remembrance of the Müller Andreas Storz from Rosenfeld at Balingen, who was robbed here on April 26, 1794 and fatally injured.
