World Badminton Federation

The World Badminton Federation ( WBF ) was a former world governing body in the sport of badminton and was well known in the International Badminton Federation, Badminton World Federation as today ( BWF), out.

History

The World Badminton Federation was founded on 24 February 1978 in Hong Kong from 13 Asian and African associations 6. However, subsequent addition of three other nations, the number of members to 22 to the association increased were: Bangladesh, Brunei, the non- IBF - member China, Ghana, Guyana, Hong Kong, India, Iran, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Nepal, Nigeria, DPRK, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Thailand and Zambia. For the Constituent Assembly Austria, France, Mexico had sent ( as representative of the Pan American Badminton Confederation ), Sweden, West Germany and Yugoslavia non-voting observers. Cause of the elimination of the IBF were ambiguities in the treatment of Taiwan and South Africa as well as in the voting rights of the individual state associations. Previously, the African Badminton Association had left closed because of the recognition of South Africa by the IBF from this. During the period of its existence the WBF hosted two World Championships, one in Bangkok in 1978 and one in Hangzhou in 1979. After changes in voting rights system, the renaming of the Taiwanese Association in Chinese Taipei Badminton Association and the non-participation of South Africa's Thomas and Uber Cups and World Championships by could be the IBF assured the reunion of IBF and WBF was completed on 26 May 1981.
