The Bahnhof Wuppertal - Barmen is a sub- station on the railway in Wuppertal Elberfeld- Dortmund.

History

At the opening of the railway line Elberfeld- Dortmund, the original route of the Bergisch- Märkischen Railway Company, there was not yet the station, he was later built and opened under the name Unterbarmen BM 1880. It should open up the western area of the then independent town of Barmen. It was built slightly later than the station sub -Barmen Rh ( later Bahnhof Wuppertal - Loh ) on the competition track of the Rhenish Railway Company.

The station was designed as a through station with two long-distance transport and two tracks. Another fifth track represented a shuttle connection to the Barmen station and was used for shunting operations without blocking the long-distance transport or tracks. Near the station, the companies Ritter House & Blecher GmbH ( the Christian -Morgenstern school today ) and the Wicküler Brewery were. Thus, a large part of the traffic was handled at the station with cargo.

1897 Station to Barmen - Unterbarmen was renamed under the direction of the Prussian state railways. Another name change there was in 1930 after Unterbarmen and 1950 in Wuppertal - Barmen sub. Two interlocking buildings were laid down in 1978.

Current usage

After the establishment of the S -Bahn line S 8 S-Bahn Rhein- Ruhr May 1988, the course of the station were removed on the mainline route. It is, therefore, entirely on the S- Bahn line and is only used as a S- Bahn station. In addition to the S 8 from Mönchengladbach Hbf to Hagen Hbf (with extension to Dortmund Hbf) holds here also have the S 7 over Remscheid to Solingen. Access to the former remote platforms was dismantled and the platforms themselves are completely eliminated, however, the long-distance railway lines are still in the same position, so that in the region of the breakpoint of the track distance is much larger than usual.

The station building, which is built on the railway embankment, now serves only as a western access to the platforms of the S -Bahn line. An eastern access to the platforms is located on a pedestrian overpass over the railway line. Two park - and-ride parking spaces are located at the station, the greater southwest of the platform. A barrier-free access to the platform is only from the smaller car park at the reception building.

Despite a modernization in 2003, the station building is in poor condition. A restaurant business, which was established here, closed in November 2004 due to the poor condition of its seat and opened its new facility in Elberfeld in August 2005.

The station is currently classified in category 4 station.
