The Würzburg Hofbräuhaus is a brewery in Würzburg.

History

The brewery was founded in 1643 by the Main-Franconian Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn and is deeply rooted in the region of Lower Franconia. From the royal connection, the authorization for continued use of the prefix yard in the company name derives from today.

At that time there were many Swedish soldiers in Würzburg, which many were concerned about the wine inventories of the city here and emptied. To keep the soldiers happy, you needed a drink with alcohol. Therefore, Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Schönborn founded the brewery. Since the brewery was a good source of income, it was also supported by the following bishops.

In memory of the founder of the brewery, the crown of the Prince Bishop adorns even today the brewer's star in the logo. Even the slogan of Würzburg Hofbräuhaus, " Enjoy under a lucky star ", finds its reference here.

During the 19th century, the Würzburg Hofbräuhaus grew to become an internationally active company. 1887 exported as one of the first German breweries in the United States. On November 1, 2006 Hans Haug joined as a Board to the company. Reinhard Meier left the company on 30 April 2007. From 9 September 2008 to December 2, 2009 officiated Hans P. van Zon second managing director. Since August 1, 2009 Michael Haupt is the managing director of the brewery. Hans Haug retired from the company on October 15, 2010. For him, moved on 18 November 2010 by Michael Crass as managing director. These followed on 1 July 2013 Norbert Lange.

Boar beer

In 2001, the Würzburg Hofbräuhaus brewery Lohr GmbH, which today is called boar beer GmbH.

This company was founded in 1836. 1878 acquired the brewmaster Pleikard stump the brewery of Franz Stephan Vogt. The production was around 1,400 hl. Since then, the Gasthaus Zum Löwen in Rieneck heard without interruption to the customers of the brewery.

1920 died Pleikard stump, the management of the brewery took over the eldest son, Alfred Butt (Senior ). By 2001, the brewery remained in family ownership.

As of 1980, the Swing Top Bottle is reintroduced for nostalgic reasons.

Werner Bräu Poppenhausen

In 1999, the Würzburg Hofbräuhaus GmbH, was still AG, Werner Bräu brewery Poppenhausen.

The brewery was founded on July 4, 1791 and was shortly afterwards into the possession of the Werner family. Half a century later took over Johann Kaspar Werner Eltingshausen from the brewery. 1991 110 people were employed in brewing and sales.

The Würzburg Hofbräuhaus has closed its office in Poppenhausen in October 2007.
