Xavier Miserachs

Xavier Miserachs i Ribalta ( born July 12, 1937 in Barcelona, Spain, † August 14 1998 in Badalona, ​​Barcelona Comarca, Spain) was a Spanish photographer.

Life

Miserachs was the son of a hematologist and a librarian. He broke off his medical studies to devote himself to photography. Since 1957 he exhibited for the first time, along with other photographers. After he had completed his military service, he went to a photo studio in his home town of their own. In addition to orders for third parties, he began with their own editions, such as Barcelona. Blanco y Negro, in which he showed with 400 photographs economic recovery in Barcelona or the Costa Brava book show.

In the 1960s Miserachs also worked as a reporter for weekly magazines like Actualidad Española or Revista Triunfo and wrote photographing for newspapers and magazines such as La Vanguardia (Barcelona), Gaceta Ilustrada, Interviu, the Spanish edition of Harper 's Bazaar or magazine. More reports related, among other things, May 1968 in France, the London of the Beatles or the Prague Spring of the year 1968. Travels took him to North America, North, East and West Africa and Southeast Asia.

Miserachs died in hospital in Badalona from lung cancer. His daughters were about 2011 the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona ( MACBA) his archive with more than 80,000 negatives and slides for a renewable period of 25 years as a loan.

Filming

Miserachs worked in some underground films of his friends Enrique Vila- Matas, Emma Cohen and Jordi Cardena as a cameraman. He directed and produced his own short film AMEN historieta muda. In 1966 he produced the film stills for the film by Manuel Summers Juguetes rotos.
